Coldest May in 4 years
Last month was the coldest. wettest, cloudiest and most windy May for four years, according to information released by the Meteorological Service. The Meteorological Service noted that, because of south and south-westerly airflows predominating, the weather was cold, cloudy, with higher than average wind speeds and regular periods of rain. Measurements taken at Lincoln College show that the mean temperature for the month at 7.8 deg C was 1.3 deg C lower than May 1976. Rainfall at 73.5 mm was 29.5 mm higher than last year and nearly five times the amount of rain that fell in May 1975. Sunshine hours were '79.8 compared with 136.4 last year.
