Exuberance in London
NZPA London The River Thames, was transformed into a vast stage on Thursday as Britain paid spectacular tribute to Queen Elizabeth 11. The Queen sailed up the river in the morning stopping at several points to talk with those who lined the river’s banks. In the evening she watched a parade of vessels from the south bank and then a spectacular fireworks display) with thousands of other spectators.
After the display had ended, the crowds surged towards Buckingham Palace, and the Queen appeared on a balcony to greet them. The London police said that there had not been a night of such spontaneous exuberance in this 2000-year-old city since V.E. Day.
