Crealey, won his way into the I third round when he survived 'a first-set attack by the Indian, Sashi Menon, to take it 7-5 and coast through the third at 6-3. Roger Taylor (U.K.), and the top seed, Guillermo Vilas (Argentina) also crashed out of the classic. * Vilas tumbled out in 53 minutes, beaten 6-2, 6-2 bv the forthy-fifth ranked American, Tom Gullickson. Half an ■ hour later the 35-year-o!d Taylor — who should have met Vilas in the second round — followed him back to the pavilion, beaten 9-8, 8-4 bv !Vick Amaya, also of the U.S. In another second-round match Dick Stockton (U.S , i beat Geoff Masters (Austrai lia), 6-3, 7-5.
