Lister in Open field
NZPA-Reuter New York John Lister (New’ Zealand), Bruce Devlin (Australia), Vic Regalado (Mexico) and Peter Oosterhuis (Britain) were among the players who qualified yesterday to play in the 1977 U.S. Open golf championship at the Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma, from June 16 to 19. They will form the foreign contingent in the tournament along with Gary Player, of South Africa, and Australians, David Graham and Graham Marsh, who were exempt from qualifying.
Arnold Palmer was among other qualifiers. He was forced to play in a qualifying round for only the second time since he won the U.S. Open in 1960.
