Repairs to Cook Strait cable soon
Repairs to the faulty Cook Strait cable will probably be finished on schedule, even though recent bad weather has delayed work.
The supply engineer for the Electricity Department (Mr M. T. O’Brien) said that the British cable ship Photinia had not ye* started work on the cable. Thirty New Zealanders ha been In the ship practising mooring arrangements and laving dummy cable joints, the repair work was expected to be completed by the end of July or the beginning of August. The fault developed In the cable last August and a spare cable was brought into use.
Mr O’orien said that if a* f .It developed in one of the two cables now in use,' power supply to the North: Island might be restricted.
