Irrigation waits

Two proposed irrigation schemes — Waiau Plains and Loburn — wait at the Cabinet committee on expenditure. The proposed Loburn scheme did not reach the Government for approval until May 31, but the Waiau Plains scheme was one of a package of schemes put forward many months ago. All the schemes will have to wait until the Cabinet committee is prepared to allocate funds for them.
A Ministry of Works officer said that it took 100 years before approval was given to the Maniatoto irrigation scheme in South Otago.
