Redmond wins Mid table tennis

Harry Redmond won the men’s! tingles title at the Mid-? Canterbury table tennis cham-|! pionship when he defeated the ; seteran John Armstrong in the final over five games. After hating lost the first two games. 12-21, 15-21, Redmond moved into top gear, winning the next three games for the match. Redmond s natural attaching piay contrasted strongly wrtn tire mote defensive styie of Armstrong.

A urspute arose in the second, game wnen, witn Redmona trailing 15-20, the umpire called a lei to allow expedite play to begin. Armstrong disputed this on \ t.ie grounds that no allowance above the statutory 15 minutes had been allowed lor lets. Alter the reteree was consulted the expedite rule was not enforced and the set duly won by Armstrong.
