Australian market uncertain
Australian sharemarkets closed on an uncertain note yesterday with uranium stocks putting on late gains.
Pancontinental advanced 50c to 1050 c and Queensland Mines, Kathleen Investments and Western Mining also firmed. Other miners were mixed w’ith Bougainville unchanged at 120 c and M.I.M. at 238 c. Hamersley rose 5c to 330 c, but Robe River eased 5c to 116 c.
On the industrial boards, B.H.P. traded unchanged at 670 c, and Myer eased 2c on the retail sales figures to 198 c.
I The Bank of New South Wales fell 4c to 526 c, and the National Bank 1c at 284 c. T. A. Field firmed a further 5c to 95c on the take-over talks, while Capitol Motors rose to 350 c on bid talks of 400 c a share.
