Manifesto read out
NZPA Guatemala City The secretary of the InterAmerican Development Bank has read publicly a five-page manifesto from the Guerrilla Army of the People in an effort to save the life of the kidnapped El Salvador Ambassador. About 1200 delegates attending the bank’s annual meeting listened in silence some of them obviously shocked, as the secretary (Mr Jorge Hazeks) read the document which denounced the Salvadorean President (Colonel Arturo Molina), as the first order of business. The Leftist terrorist organisation who abducted the Ambassador (Mr Eduardo Casanoqa Sandoval) promised to release him unharmed if the communique was read publicly and distributed to delegates and reporters. General reassigned Major-General John Singlaub, who was dismissed as United States Chief of Staff in South Korea for remarks regarded by President Carter as contrary to his policy on withdrawal from Korea, has been appointed Chief of Staff of the United States Army Forces Command — the army’s biggest command. The position controls more than 300,000 active forces from Guam, through the United States Pacific trust territories, across the United States, and down to Panama. — Washington.
