Ski-ing squad chosen

Nine skiers — five men jand four women — have been named in a New Zealand squad to start training at Mount Hutt this weekend.

The squad will be coached this year by the former New Zealand champion and Olympic Games representative, Chris Womersley. It is:

Men.— Stuart Blakely, Brett Kendall (Auckland): Warwick Brown (Taranaki); Jeremy Light, Julian Morris (Canterbury).

Women.— Anna Archibald, Fiona Johnson, Julia Allison (Canterbury); Jonelle Mills (Queenstown). The squad will be man-

aged by Mr John Morris, of i Christchurch and will start! physical training this week 1 under the supervision of s‘?ff from the University of Canterbury’s physical education department. The team will ski in all five circuit races on the New Zealand Ski Association’s calendar, and the Mount Hutt international series. The men will race in the Queenstown pro-am, and a team will be chosen from the squad to race in the Australian international series at Thredbo from August 20 to 27. Several alterations were made to the 1977 racing calendar at the annual meeting of the N.Z.S.A. at the week-end. Most of the circuit events have been re-

duced to two days from three.

| The revised programme is: I July 16 and 17, first cir(cuit race at Mount Hutt, giant slalom and parallel [slalom; July 23 and 24, second circuit race, Craigieburn, slalom and giant slalom; July 30 and 31, South Island junior championships at Tekapo, slalom and giant slalom; August 6 and 7, third circuit race, Coronet Cup at Coronet Peak, slalom and giant slalom; August 20 and 21, North T sland junior championships at Mount Egmont, slalom and giant slalom; August 29 to September 5, first Mount Hutt international series, downhill, slalom and giant slalom; September 7 and 8, fourth circuit race, Mount Ruapehu,

slalom and giant slalom; September 10 to 16, fifth circuit race, New Zealand championships at Mount Ruapehu, slalom, giant slalom and two runs downhill.

A Canterbury squad of 17 has also been chosen. It is training twice a week in the Cashmere High School gymnasium under the Swiss coach, Ueli Hasler.
