These rather futuristic figures are among several in an exhibition of the traditional Japanese art of origami or paper folding, showing in Christchurch at the moment. The exhibition is at “Yamasaki,” a shop selling imported Asian goods, in Manchester Street. The exhibition was organised by a Christchurch man, Mr Laurie Bisman, Australasian regional organiser for the British Origami Society.
As well as the antelope, toreador, kiwi, and jack-in-the-boxes pictured, it includes a complete chess set and pool table with players of paper folded by Mr Bisman. Pieces have also been sent from the United States, the United Kingdom. and Japan. After the exhibition ends on Friday, the pieces will go to the Robert McDougall Art Gallery for display.
