Australian markets
■Situation and take-over situation stocks dominated trading on otherwise listless Australian markets yesterday. Traders said that the fall by the Dow Jones index last week weighed on sentiment in spite of speculation about a cut in Australian interest rates.
T. A. Field moved up to 90c from 67c after an announcement that take-over talks are underway. Wright Heaton moved ahead on an increase in the offer price to 200 c from Tooth and Company. Pancontinental fell to 1030 c but Kathleen put on 7c to 142 c. Utah Renison lost 10c.
BHP closed steady at 670 c as did the Bank of New South Wales at 530 c. Hooker slipped 2c to 58c, and Lend Lease was also 2c cheaper at 244 c. CSR regained 1c to 353 c.
