Big subsidy on Coastal Trader
PA Wellington The Coastal Trader was subsidised with $1.28M in the five months to last March, while the subsidy for April was $223,000. These figures were released in Parliament by the Minister of Transnort (Mr McLachlan) in reply to a question from Mr F. L. Rogers. (Labour, Onehunga). Mr McLachlan was also asked for the subsidy of the Coastal Ranger but he said that this had still to be settled pending the determination of a basis for payment of a single subsidy on the integrated service provided by both vessels.
Mr McLachlan said that there was no thought in the Government’s mind to stop the subsidies.
