Hospital parking

Sir, —Has S. F. Shuttleworth (“The Press,” Mav 20) ever been a patient 'in Christchurch Public Hospital, or is he one of those able to afford private hospital fees? The buildings are crowded; expansion will be necessary with the population growth. Whether Haglev Park is used should be decided by all the citizens of Christchurch and the surrounding areas, not bv a biased few. The hospital should have been built on the site of the Canterbury Park Trotting Club, as the ground was bequeathed to the North Canterbury Hospital Board by the late John Twigger in 1885 and leased to the club in 1899. This lease comes up for review in November this year. Perhaps the board can 'exchange an equivalent area of the trotting ground for part of South Hagley Park and let the trotting club find ground further out. Proper care of the sick is more important than the pleasure of a few. —Yours, etc., MYRA J. WRIGHT. May 27, 1977.
