Grocery price increases
Price increases approved for a large range of food and grocery items in the last fortnight will be felt by the consumer this week, when more than 60 items are expected to rise in price. It usually takes one to two weeks before newprice stock is in the shops, depending on the turnover of the product. Increased prices will apply to a range of Nestles products; Milo and other chocolate beverages, sweetened condensed milk, coffee and milk beverages, banana and strawberry drinks, and Maggi stock, cubes and sauces. The range of apple juices and apple products put out
by the Apple and Pear Board has also been increased in price, effective from May 23. A wide range of imported dried fruits and dried cereals, coconut, rice and peanuts has been increased in price. Soaos, soap powders, household cleaners and toiletries have also risen in recent weeks. Although last week was a particularly heavy week for price increases it may be a little quieter this week. Yesterday, increases for fewer than 20 items were announced—a very small list for what is usually the busiest day of the week, according to the sales manager of one grocery wholesale business.
