The show that couldn’t go on
Ten actors who were to record the drama presentation “Fullers Earth” for South Pacific Television before an audience at the Civic Theatre in Christchurch last evening went on strike before the show began. The actors are members of Actors Equity, whose national vice-president (Mr G. W. Bahiman) said that attempts were made right up to the starting time of the recording to resolve
the issue, but these had failed. Mr Bahiman said that S.P.T. had gone back on an agreement. ‘The Broadcasting Council signed a voluntary agreement with Actors Equity, which came into effect on April 1, 1977,” he said, “After six weeks of recognition, and use of this agreement, South Pacific Television now refuses to recognise it by not complying with its conditions.
