Glacier named
An Antarctic glacier has been named after a consultant engineer for his long service in polar engineering and construction.
Situated on the coast of Marie Byrd Lamd, the Herbst Glacier was named in honour of Emmet Herbst. He is employed by the American firm of Holmes and Narver, which maintains an Antarctic support division. Mr Herbst has worked on the continent for eight of the last nine years. In a citation from the United States National Science Foundation he was described as “instrumental in the many improvements ■ over the last 10 years.’* 1
