Woman pleads on fraud charge
PA Wellington [ A housewife aged 26, who pleaded not guilty in the Wellington Magistrate’s Court yesterday to a charge alleging an intent to defraud, [was commited by Mr Mo-; ; naghan, S.M., to the Su-i |preme Court for trial. ' The defendant was Susan i Mary Pilmer, nee Caldwell. [ The charge alleged that [Pilmer, on November 30 last year at Petone, with intent ; to defraud, obtained from [Gladys Olive Morris a drawn on the Bank [of New Zealand, Petone, valued at $25,000, by falsely [representing that the proceeds would be used to pur--1 chase a house at Silverstream. I Doctor D. B. Inglis, Q.C., [and Mr R. J. D. Buddle, appeared for Pilmer. Mr K. G. Stone prosecuted. Doctor Inglis entered a plea of not guilty on Pil-
mer’s behalf under the Summary Proceedings Act. Told that the court proposed committing her for trial and asked how she pleaded, Primer replied: “Not guilty”. Mr Monaghan released Pilmer on bail of a $lOOO bond and a surety of $lOOO, and ordered her to report to the ■ Masterton Police Station three times weekly.
