Many burglaries over week-end

Staff at Panorama Meats,, Ltd, in New Brighton, who 1 worked all week-end to res-1 tock the company’s freezers, 1 did so in vain —• all the i meat was stolen on Sunday : night. Thieves forced the back ‘ door of the Bower Avenue ' premises and removed meat 1 worth more than $2600, some of which was not insured. The manager of Panorama Meats Ltd, (Mr R. Sabin) said yesterday that the burglars had wrenched the lock and handle off the company’s large freezer to get the meat. His staff, he said, had ' worked during the week-end 1 to fulfil a contract for the 1 Railways Department. “We , just didn’t have the meat for j them today,” said Mr Sabin. “The burglars must have a ' big freezer somewhere. They ! took a lot of meat and it’s ' the sort of thing that would , have to be pre-sold,” he said. 1 Christchurch police are 1 also investigating other burglaries committed in the I Christchurch area over the ! week-end.
