University A top
A determined challenge from University B was repulsed by a more skilful and co-ordinated University A team in the main game of the men’s A-grade ■ ollevbaii competition opening round. In spite of the absence of two internationals, Graeme Steel and Tony Barnett, University A produced some good volleyball after an Initially slow start. The first set was evenly poised, at 8-7 to the B team, when a series of winning spikes from Phil Oooeerik led the A team to powering away to a 15-8 win. Univeratty B also opened strongly in the second set, lead-' mg 4-1 before succumbling to, the skill and experience of the; A team. Producing winners almost at will, with more polished and stronger hitting, and tn spite of some courageous recov-i ary plays, the A team won the' second set, 15-5.
