Parliament's diary
Members tabled 11 notices of motion when Parliament sat at 2.30 p.m. yesterday. Ministers replied to eight questions and one urgent question.
The chairman of the petitions committee, Mr L. C. Schultz (Nat., Coromandel) reported that a petition of Mr and Mrs A, R. Woods and 11,860 others seeking an investigation into excessive noise had been considered by the committee with the recommendation that it be referred to the Government for most favourable consideration.
A petition on behalf of Mrs C. Clark and 463 others seeking a review of the Government’s immigration policy was referred for favourable consideration.
and a petition from Mr R. Ross and 740 others seeking to have a restriction on the employment of relief teachers withdrawn was referred for consideration. Members then debated private members’ notices of motion. The debate was interrupted by the 5.30 p.m. dinner adjournment.
When the House resumed at 7.30 p.m., the Address-in-Reply debate continued. Speakers were the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Rowling), the Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon), Mr N. J. Kirk (Lab., Sydenham), Mr K. M. Comber (Nat., Wellington Central), and Mr W. A. Fraser (Lab., St Kilda). The debate was interrupted by the 10.30 p.m. adjournment.
