S.I. Maoris oppose boycott

PA Wellington The Ngai Tahu Maori Trust Board representing the Ngai Tahu and Ngati Mamoe people of the South Island dissociates itself from the recent moves to boycott Sir Keith Holvoake, as Govemor-GenerT from maraes. The board’s chairman Mr W. Torepe. of Temuka said that the board joined with those who had condemned the marae boycott on grounds of tradition and common courtesy. “The marae is the traditional focal point of our people and its forms and significance should never be treated as a political football,” he said.
