Car-park ‘illogical’
It was illogical that the Canterbury Regional Planning Authority should recommend that a car-park be placed in front of a tavern, and then tell people not to drink and drive, said Mr N. G. Hattaway at a meeting of the executive yesterday. “We should be making drinkers walk two miles before getting into their cars,” he said. Mr Hattaway was commenting on a recommendaition from the authority that the car-park at the proposed tavern in Buchanans Road be placed in front of the building, not behind it. “It is inconsistent when we sav don’t drink and drive and then recommend a car-park beside a tavern,” he said. However, the recommendation was passed and an advisory letter win be sent to the Paparua County Council.
