Companionship in labour
PA Auckland A woman may nominate whomever she likes to be with her during labour and the delivery of her baby, as a result of a recommendation approved by the Auckland Hospital Board hospital services committee yesterday. The person could be her legal or de facto husband, or her mother, sister, or any friend she cares to name. The new policy will now apply to all confinements in the board’s district. The policy was adopted on the recommendation of the board’s obstetric and gynaecological advisory committee. The doctor in charge, must give his consent to the particular person’s presence. Whoever stays with the mother must abide by the direction of the medical or nursing staff in charge.
