June rise in super, promised
PA Wellington National superannuitants will be given a rise in June to compensate for the increase in the cost of living. Beneficiaries were given this assurance by the Minister of Social Welfare iMr Walker) who conferred for almost 90 minutes yesterday with a delegation of 14 led by the president of the Federation Of Beneficiaries (Mr F. McComish). But Mr McComish expressed disappointment after the meeting that the Minister would not agree to any backdating of the rise. He said the beneficiaries had “missed out right from the beginning,” and since the introduction of National Superannuation there had been a 6 per cent general wage Order and many increases in living costs. The delegation had also asked the Minister to scrutinise carefully or abolish the tax payment made bv beneficiaries under the scheme. But they had been given no assurances on this, Mr McComish said.
