Markus shapes well in training
Special correspondent Dunedin | Markus, which takes on a hurdling career at Oamaru on Saturday, shaped well in training at Wingatul yesterday morning. Markus, in the hands or racei rider Dave Adams, jumped better than Battling On and Prince Caussack in a bout over six hurdles. Markus, which does not exert himself in training, is a half brother by Charicles to Berwen (by Jekyll), which won twice over country before an injury curtailed his career.
i Bell of Charicles showed (ability in heavy ground when she drew away from Playtime at the finish of 800 metres in 55.6 secs on the course proper. Galloping was on the extreme outer and other times were about two seconds slower.
Orette bumped a knee when schooling and will miss the Hurdles at Oamaru. Art World and Copen All have come back into work in great heart after spells. Art World's high spirits are causing his trainer Arthur Didham some anxietv and the big grey knocked a front leg when prancing off the track yesterday. Didham is eyeing the
Frabazon Handicap for Art World as a lead-up to the Winter Cup. Copen Ali, which was beaten half a head by Scapa Flow in the McLane Stakes in October at his lone start, has filled out into a commanding individual.
