Nichol—Atkins: The engagement is announced with pleasure between Judith Mary, only daughter of Mrs P. M. Atkins, and the late Mr P. J. Atkins, of Waipukurau, and John Ernest, second son of Mr and Mrs Ernest Nichol of Invercargill.
Whitehead — McKerrow: The engagement is announced between Suzanne Marie, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs R. M. McKerrow, of Ashburton, and Paul Gregory, 'youngest son of Mr and Mrs R. B. Whitehead, of Christchurch.
outside the main health survey and treatment work of the team. In one village she cared for two victims of burns from accidents in cooking fires. Ignorance, she considers, is just as “dangerous a disease as smallpox.” The quality of village life would increase greatly with knowledge of proper hygiene and public health practices. For this reason, public health education puppet shows were performed at some of the clinics. The medical workers themselves had to ensure that all water they drank was boiled and had to avoid foods which were prepared under poor sanitary conditions.
Nurse Bews has completed statistics from her surveys for the Dooley Foundation whose report will soon be sent to the Nepal GovernmerZ for use in its national health planning. Kay Bews will return to New Zealand soon to visit her family and friends.
