Court reforms urged
Speedier justice and better facilities in magistrate's courts have been advocated by the Friends at Court Society to the Royal Commission on the Courts. The society was making submissions to the commission in Christchurch. Better facilities were especially necessary for women and children, the society said. It also asked for improved programming and time-tabling of fixtures, because some people had to wait too long for their ' fixtures or were not told about delays by their soThe commission also 1 heard submissions from . the Taumutu Maori Women’s Welfare League, which favoured separate children’s and domestic courts, and T. B. Ryan. Set up late last year, the commission has been charged with examining the running structure of New Zealand’s judicial system. It has already sat in • Dunedin, Auckland, Wellington, and Hamilton. Twenty-two individuals i and groups will be heard " in Christchurch.
