Motor-cyclist's body found

The body of a youth was found in a water race beside State highway 77 near Digby’s bridge on Sunday morning. He was John Edward Coppard, aged 18, of Waimarama Road, near Methven Ashburton police said Mr Coppard failed to return home after taking his trail bike out on Saturday evening. His parents made a search the next morning and found his body. He apparently struck a pole with his machine, and landed in the water race beside the highway, a mile above Digby’s bridge. The accident is believed to have occurred about 3 a.m. on Sunday.
