Indoor bowls win to Austin
Six points to Trevor Austin’s team on the fifth end proved decisive in the final of the Northcote 50-50 indoor bowls tournament at Kearney’s Road hall on Sunday. Against the experienced Ray Watkin in the final. Austin started with a single and a two on the opening ends. The third was drawn, but Watkin reduced the deficit with two on the fourth. Austin’s six on the fifth end put the issue almost beyond doubt. Watkin scored a single on the next end and Austin replied with a single on the seventh. Watkin could manage only one on the eighth end and the ninth was not played. The semi-final between Vem Norris and Watkin was evenly balanced early, but a single and three to Watkin on the fourth and fifth ends gave his team a winning break. The other semi-final between Michael Immers and Austin was a cliff-hanger. After seven ends, Immers led 8-3. but Austin responded with threes on the next two ends. Immers scored a single on the ninth to level the scores and force an extra end, However, Austin was equal to the occasion and scored three on the extra end. Twenty-six teams from the 75 • entered qualified for post-section ! play. : Results:
