PA Auckland The Victorian jumper, The Champ, has been given the topweight of 65.5 kg tn the $25,000 Great Northern Steeplechase on the second day of the Auckland Racing Club’s winter meeting at Ellerslie on June 6. According to news received bv the Auckland Racing Club there are reasonable prospects of suitable air transport being available to get The C’hamp to Auckland next Monday or Tuesday. The Champ ran second with 67kg in the Redditch Steeplechase at Sandown last Saturday. Afterwards the horse’s partowner and trainer, Mrs J. L. Moir, reaffirmed to reporters iter wish to tackle the Northern with The Champ. Basketball.—A New Zealand junior basketball team to play provincial matches and three tests against the visiting Mercer Island 'United States) team in July was named after trials in Hamilton at the week-end.
