Irate cable from ship’s crew
The crew of a New Zealand coaster, the Ngapara — now at sea — cabled “The Press” last evening to express their disgust at the Government’s decision to reduce the amount of the domestic purpose benefit.
The cablegram, sent by members of the Seamen’s Union aboard the vessel, said that the move was “grossly irresponsible.”
Solo parents, and New Zealand working women and children, must not be compelled to undergo financial stress, said the message, sent Via Awarua Radio. The crew called the Government’s decision “vile, and inhumane.”
