Quax out of favour

NZPA Melbourne The Australian distance runner, Dave Fitzsimons, was yesterday selected ahead of New Zealand’s Olympic silver medallist, Dick Quax, in the Oceania team for the inaugural athletics World Cup meeting, in West Germany in .September. Quax, one of the world’s fastest over 5000 metres, was chosen only as a reserve. Quax won his heat in the Montreal 5000 metres and finished second in the final, whereas Fitzsimons failed to finish ip another heat, and also was placed last in the 10,000 metres final. A total of 52 athletes, including 17 New Zealanders, were named in the Oceania squad for the cup event, to be held in Busselldorf on September 2, 3 and 4.
