Rothmans passing bemoaned
Ten years of water polo coaching clinics — coaching about 40.000 children — were recalled by Mr W. H. Dyson at the New Zealand Water Polo Board’s annual meeting. The withdrawal from coaching of the Rothmans Sports Foundation will mean the end of the Rothmans coaching clinics, but tributes paid at the meeting suggest, Mr Dyson’s value will not be lost. "We have been terribly well favoured in having Bill Dyson as opr national coach,” said the national board chairman (Mr G. S. Brockett), "We firstly say: Thank you,’ then say: 'You’ve given us a problem.’ “I don’t think it’s fair to assume Bill Dyson passes from one sphere and is conned into another.” said Mr Brockett. “We know we’re not going to lose you.” Agreeing that a problem had been created, the chairman of the swimming council (Mr M. R. Duckmanton) said: "You have to overcome it; the gap has to be filled.” Earlier. Mr L N. Chadwick, president of the N.Z.A.S.A.. said that water polo had had its foundation in the clinics. T would suggest the water polo people in New Zealand owe * great debt of gratitude to Bill (Dyson), and to Rothmans. 1 ’
