Bowling green
Ways to convert an old Beckenham bowling green ■ into pensioner housing are being studied by the Christ-1 church City Council. The green, between Fisher Avenue and Waimea Terrace,’ has been vacated by the I Beckenham Bowling Club. It
contains an old two-storey I pavilion, which would be: demolished if the land’s open-1 space designation is lifted
land the land used for hou jing. Through Housing Corpora ,tion financial help with hous ling for the elderly, the coun cil could gain money for the ' purchase of replacement (recreation land in the area About 10 units could bt .built on the site, overlookins the Heathcote River.
The council now has more than 1021 pensioner housing units, and another 106 are nearing completion.
