Latryl improved on his first-day third when he ran down the favourite, Roseama, close to home in the Flying Sportsman Handicap, first! leg of the on-course treble at Westport yesterday. Lateryl trailed fourth until the turn, and when Brent Lee asked her for a final effort she responded gamely toi take the decision bv a neck! from Roseama, with Motoway | running on for third fouri lengths back.

Roseama, as on Saturday,! was tailed off early but she' mounted a big run from the! 800 m and reached the lead! shortly before turning for! home. She appeared to be. travelling easily in front but! could not withstand Lateryl’s fiirshing burst. Motoway ran on from midfield but never looked like! catching the first two.! Adriatic had the run of the race but could not take ad-1 vantage of it over the final! 300 m and faded, finishing l fourth.

Grand Poppa gave the North Island its second win at the meeting when she convincingly beat the juveniles in the Shamrock Supporters Handicap, second leg of the treble.
