Hotere mural at airport
Ralph Hotere has been commissioned by the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council to do a mural for the nevz terminal building at Auckland Airport. The chairman of the council, Hamish Keith, said that the terminal must rank second only to the Beehive building in terms of public impact. It was essential that the millions of passengers arriving in or departing from New Zealand at the airport received some indi-
cation of the country’s “cultural concerns.” Mr Keith said the Ministry of Works and Development had also commissioned a mural for the terminal building, to be painted by Pat Hanly, who did the mural in the Christchurch Town Hall. . It was intended to have three murals, but sponsorship had not been found for the third. An approach had been made to Air New Zealand, but the airline was unable to sponsor it.
