Derailment at Sefton
Passengers on board the Picton-Christchurch express were delaved three hours last evening when the engine struck a cow and was partly derailed a mile north of Sefton about 8 n.m. Men and equipment were sent from Christchurch to set the engine back on the rails, and a Railways spokesman said he expected the line to be clear by midnight. The 56 passengers on the train were picked up by the Nelson-Christchurch Newman’s bus. which arrived in Christchurch at midnight, three hours after the scheduled arrival time of the express.
