Masters wide open
NZPA-Reuter Augusta Tom Watson and Ben Crenshaw were tied for the lead at seven-under-par 209 after the third round of the Masters golf tournament yesterday on a day that saw six players deadlocked for top place at one stage.
i Watson, who had shared! the second-round lead at 1391 with Rod Funseth, shot al [two-under 70 yesterday after [earlier rounds of 69 and 70.1 Crenshaw started the day at 1140 and fired bis second con- . secutive 69 after an openingI round 71. ! Rik Massengale had the day’s, finest round, a fiveunder 67, and moved into i [third place at 210. He shot[ 70 and 73 in the first two [rounds. Jack Nicklaus (72-70-70),: already the winner of a, record five Masters titles, and Jim Colbert (72-71-69),' were next at 212. i Four players were grouped lat 213 — South Africa’s [Gary Player (71-70-72), Tom Kite (70-73-70), Hubert [Green (67-74-72) and Rod : Funseth (72-67-74), who was| I co-leader with Watson after[ [two rounds. Still much in contention! [were four more at 214 the defending champion, Rayl I Floyd (71-72-71), Danny Ed-1 [wards (72-74-68), Don Janu-f ary (69-76-69) and Hale! Irwin (70-74-70).
