NZPA Sydney There was an upset in the $lOl,OOO Doncaster Handicap H6oomi at Randwick on Saturday, when the Cummingstrained Just Ideal won by a length and a quarter from New Zealand-bred Manawapoi (Battle Waggon—Pin) at long odds of 33 to 1. There was booing as John Duggan, in his first win since a serious accident that threatened his riding career, brought the four-year-old entire back to scale. Just Ideal was one of six horses Cummings had in the race, but with a wide barrier
draw and unimpressive recent form lie was not as highly fancied as most of his stablemates. The win even surprised Cummings. A sensation followed the race when Larry Olsen, rider of thifdplaced Dalrello. protested against Just Ideal. He claimed Just Ideal ' had taken his running, forcing him to check out and costing i Dalrello the race. Duggan said his mount had ducked in badly i near the finish. i The protest was dismissed. . Olsen said he had made the • protest because of the $lO,OOO difference between third anti second prizes. If the protest had i succeeded Manawapoi would 1 have been awarded the race from Just Ideal with Dalrello ;third. 1 Disappointments in the race . were Ngawyni, the Cummingstrained second favourite, which ! finished seventeenth of the 24 I starters, and the 13-to-4 favourite, Tiger Town, which failed to : run on and finished seventh. |ln the 1400 m A.J.C.
