New white playground
“Survival” (TVI, Sunday afternoon) takes a look at a place most New Zealanders are relatively wellinformed about — Antarctica. The world’s last great frontier, it has attracted brave men from all over the world to explore its icy vastness. Now, Air New Zealand takes tourists on roundtrip scenic flights to view
the frozen wastes from the comfort of their foampadded seats and wealthy Americans are paying $BO a day to cruise Antarctic waters by ship. For that money they get among the icebergs, the blizzards and the savage gales and see at first-hand the penguins, seals and sea-lions that inhabit this desolate continent.
The “Survival” team captured some unusual film footage, including the first evidence that sealions do, in fact, hunt penguins.
