Antique auction offers 324 lots
A variety of antiques and fine art will will be auctioned at the Te Kura Lounge, Bealey Avenue, today. An early nineteenthcentury Royal seal depicting Queen Victoria, an eighteen carat Edwardian gentleman’s “hunter” pocket watch and a slection of old clocks are among the items for sale.
There are some fine pieces of Worcester china, according to the auctioneer (Mr M. H. McCrostie). These include a Royal Worcester small vase, with an irregularly scalloped base ripi, and an
ornamental Royal Worcester lidded vase supported on a richly-gilded trefoil base.
Another distinctive item is a Japanese ivory carving depicting a human figure on the back of a stag. Paintings by Frances Hodkins, G. C. Haite, W. M. Hodgkins, W. L. Dittmer, M. O. Stoddart, C. D. Barraud and W. H. Rayworth are among those for sale. The auction, organised by McCrostie’s Fine Art Auctions, Ltd, will be held in two parts. Bidding for most of the 324 lots will begin at 11 a.m., except for the 60 paintings. These will be auctioned after 7.30 p.m.
