Hot spot put down
Two fire engines from New Brighton returned to the scene of Sunday’s Waimairi Beach scrub fire last evening after smoke was seen to be rising from a burnt-out area at 6.40 p.m. Firemen were at the scene for an hour, and used shovels to eliminate the hot spot. A Fire Brigade spokesman said he expected such hot spots would be liable to flare up for several days, until it rained again.
