True Duane bought by Australians
NZPA Sydney The Australian standardbred Industry received their biggest boost in years with the announcement of the acquisition of the fastest pacer ever to be imported to that country, True Duane. The $200,000 purchase holds the world nine-furiong record of 2:9.1, a rating of 1:54-75, beating the American champion. Brett Hanover and the New Zealand wonder pacer Cardigan Bay as a three-vear-old. True Duane, now in England, will arrive in Australia in June and stand for a service fee of $2OOO. The 13-year-old (Australian time) has amassed more than $350,000 In prize money and will be syndicated for 50 shares at $4OOO each. Last season True Duane served a total of 38 mares, all of which returned postlve tests. True Duane is the sire of seven two-minute performers and 65 in 2:05 up till 1976, and had sired a total of 121 Individual winners from 218 foals.
One of his sons, Mirror Image, paced a 1:58.3 rating as a two-year-old and 1:56.5 as a four-year-old on a half-mile track. Mirror Image collected 5318.985 during his career as the fastest two-year-old in 1973.
