Search for huia bird
PA Auckland An expedition to hunt for the supposedly extinct huia will enter the Urewera National Park next week, and will last about a fortnight. The expedition has been planned by the Deerstalkers’ Association, and is an attempt to prove whether the huia, which was sighted in 1907, is extinct.
The leader of the expedition, Mr R. W. Ward, said, that 12 naturalists and some members of the association would make up the party. He and other naturalists had seen what they believed were huia signs in the area last November. Mr Ward said the expedition had the support of the Forest Service, the Departement of Internal Affairs, and ithe Conservation Council,
