Widow’s benefit
Sir, — As a widow I would like to applaud the Opposition spokesman on family affairs, Mrs Tirika-tene-Sullivan, for criticising the Government on the allowable income for widows. A widow without dependants can earn only $l7 per week or $BB4 yearly. The Government had promised to raise the amount of money a widow could earn, but failed to do so. As Mrs Tirikatene-Sullivan said, “Widows are not asking the Government for money, just the right to earn more.” — Yours, etc., NOALA MASSEY. March 21, 1977.
