Old spectacles wanted
Five hundred pairs of old pectacles are wanted by the x’ew' Zealand Red Cross Soci■ty for short-sighted people ■t the New Hebrides. There was a great shortg' of spectacles in the New lebrides. Many people ould not afford to buy new >nes. said the New Zealand led Cross field officer in the South Pacific (Miss M. McTamney). Spectacles would be sent only to th New Hebrides, because the issuing of spec-
taeles required expert supervision, she said. The New Hebrides Health Department would ensure that only the correct lens were issued to those needing them. Red Cross workers would sort and pack the spectacles in Wellington, and an optician would grade the spectacles so that every patient needing glasses would have a selection of four or five pairs from which to choose, Miss McTamney said.
