Meat men back
Killing will resume at the! Whakatu and Tomoana! freezing works, near Hastings, this morning. Unconnected disputes stopped killing at both works on Friday morning. Whakatu mutton workers claimed the speed of one of six chains was exceeding the agreed operating limit and they walked out at 8 a.m.. leaving 15,500 sheep and lambs to be returned to farmers for the w’eek-end. Excessive noise caused workers in a mutton-sticking area at Tomoana to walk out at 11 a.m. Their action was upheld by a shed meeting and although all lambs on the plant at the time were killed, normal work was not resumed in the afternoon.
Both works reported that normal killing would resume this morning.
