PA Auckland The first 13 places in the two- 1 ; man round the North Island , vacht race hat e so far been taken hv second division boats All the boats have now completed the first stage of the race from Auckland to Mangonui in the far north of the east coast. The first boat to finish the 160 mile leg was the 42 foot] Gerontius. skippered by G. G Eder, followed by .John Lidgard's yacht. Z Light variable winds throughout the day gave Gerontius no chance to establish a handicap beating lead and a late aftv noon breeze from the south east further aided the smaller craft. The crews are being hosted by [the Mangonui Cruising Club dur ing their 48-hour break; and each crew has been allocated to a family. Entertainment will be low-kev to allow the crews to prepare for the next long, hard leg round' North Cane and down the west coast to Queen Charlotte Sound.
