Hotel is all set for the tourists
Christchurch’s newest hotel, the Avon Park Motor Hotel, has been specially designed to cater for tourists and conference gatherings.
The creamy brown, L-shaped, four-storey hotel in Park Terrace — formerly known as the Arlington Motor Inn — has been upgraded and extended to provide 62
guest units, a conference room for 150 people and a dining room seating more than 100.
The converted building now has architectural features complimentary to the beautiful view of the nearby North Hagley Park and Avon River — after which the hotel was named.
Its conference room, known as the Salisbury Room, will also cater for
weddings and other social ■ functions, and has an ■ adjoining Park Lounge for : visitors to relax in. Besides providing a i large menu for guests, the ■ comfortable Riverview i Restaurant has a quick- ' service, substantial businessmen’s luncheon, the Jet X Lunch, which is available at a fixed price of $3.75. The hotel has a Tourist
i House Liquor Licence I which will provide re-
freshments for guests and casual diners in both the restaurant and bar lounge, which has been appropriatly called The Snug. As implied by the hotel’s name, it provides extensive car parking facilities and also is situated close to the centre of the city.
Paul Crooke, who has been manager of the Avon Park Hotel since last December, is capably assisted by his wife, Elaine.
Paul has been working as a training manager and assistant manager in Christchurch for the past four years and also has worked as a relieving manager throughout New Zealand. He believes that the hotel’s friendly atmosphere and its modern facilities Will make it a very popular gathering place in Christchurch.
The hotel is booked already for several conferences and Paul is eagerly looking forward to a stay by the British Lions rugby team during June and July.
The Avon Park Hotel is closely associated with the Avon Motor Lodge and its extensions were made by Maurice Carter Contractors, Ltd.
